Pumpkins at Night

4th grade earned about value in art - going from a highlight (white) to mid-tones (shades of grey) finally to shadows (black).  They used this knowledge to draw a sky that goes from a white moon to a black sky.  They also used value to create highlights, mid-tones and a shadow on their pumpkins.  In addition, students learned about perspective and that objects up close to us are bigger than objects that are further away and used this knowledge to draw three pumpkins are varying distances from the viewer.  After the initial oil pastel drawing, students used baby oil to blend the colors.
