Warm City Skyline, with Cool Reflection

My Wednesday group of eight 5th graders created their own city skyline's using a watercolor + printmaking method.

Students first folded their paper in half, then used watercolors to paint the top half with warm colors (red, yellow, orange) and the bottom half with cool colors (purple, blue, green).   They then drew a picture of a city skyline and transfered the picture onto a foam board (a printing "plate").  We rolled black ink onto the plate and printed the image on the top half of the painting to look like the sunset in the background of the city.  Then, using the same plate with the leftover ink, we printed the image on the bottom half of the paper to look like the reflection of the city in the water.

I am so proud of my student's first printmaking experience.  They are so talented!
