Op Art (Optical Illusion Art)

Painting by Victor Vasarely
Painting by Bridget Riley

Students studied the art movement, Op Art, which means artwork that is an optical illusion (plays a trick on the eye).  Op art looks 3D (three-dimensional), but it is actually 2D (flat!).

Victor Vasarely invented Op Art with his paintings in the 1930's, and Bridget Riley carried the art movement to the next level in the 1960's.

Students learned three different ways of making their own op art and learned that the key to successful op art is the perfect placement of lines and colors.
