4th graders learned about radial symmetry and how it is different from a regular symmetrical shape or an asymmetrical (NOT symmetrical) shape. A radial symmetrical shape is identical (the same) from all around, not only side to side, but also up and down. A good example of a radial symmetrical shape is the sun. students then looked at snowflakes close up and saw that snowflakes are also good examples of a radial symmetrical shape. Students learned how to fold and cut radial symmetrical snowflakes using tissue paper. They then used a paint brush and watered-down glue (called mod podge) to stick their snowflakes to their paper and create the shiny surface texture.
