Textured Gumball Collage in the Style of Wayne Thiebaud

In this project 1st graders first learned the word "texture" which means the feel or appearance of a surface.  Students then created painting using their brush and sponges to create texture.  Once those paintings were dry, students cut them into lots of circles that would be used as gumballs to fill their drawn machine.  Students then learned about the artist Wayne Thiebaud and looked at his many paintings of gumball machines, specifically looking for texture in his paintings.  1st graders then drew their own gumball machine and filled it up with their textured gumballs!
