This was such a fun lesson for 2nd graders! We talked about what a symmetrical shape or object looks like and brainstormed different mammals, insects, reptiles, etc. that are symmetrical in shape. Students then choose their favorite symmetrical animal and drew half of it in oil pastel while keeping the other half white. Students then folded the paper in half and used a jumbo popsicle stick to rub the oil pastel animal image onto the other half of the paper to make a perfectly symmetrical animal.
